Woods turned professional in 1996, and within a year, he made history by winning his first major, the 1997 Masters, in a record-breaking performance. He dominated the golfing world, reaching the pinnacle of the rankings in June 1997. Throughout the 2000s, Woods maintained his dominance, spending extensive periods as the world’s top-ranked player.
However, Woods faced personal challenges in the late 2000s, taking a hiatus from golf to address issues in his personal life. Despite a temporary setback in his form and ranking, he made a triumphant return to the winner’s circle, ending a career-long winless streak in December 2011.
Woods boasts a remarkable list of achievements, breaking numerous golf records. With 14 major championships and 79 PGA Tour wins, he ranks among the sport’s most decorated athletes. He holds records for the most consecutive weeks and the greatest total number of weeks as world number one, as well as numerous accolades such as PGA Player of the Year and Byron Nelson Award.
His illustrious career includes milestones like being the youngest player to achieve the career Grand Slam and the fastest to win 50 tournaments on tour. Woods is renowned for his dominance in World Golf Championships and remains the only golfer to have won both The Silver Medal and The Gold Medal at The Open Championship.
